We are doing 2-3 activities in the computer lab on Wed./Thurs. 9/22-23. Sit with your partner(s)- check glass wall postings. You may chose to work by yourself.
1. Go to www.tenement.org and click on the virtual tour at the bottom of the page. On the opening page of the tour choose any 2 apartments to visit besides the ruin apartment (see circles with names at top of page). Fill in the chart with the information found in the readings. Note that livelihood means job- but some of the people worked out of their home.
2. With your partner choose a topic for your Turn of the Century Project:
-Science/Urban Life: Wright brothers, George Eastman, Frederick Law Olmsted, Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright
-Public Education: Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. Du Bois
-Segregation/Discrimination: Ida B. Wells, Plessy v. Ferguson
-Mass Culture: History of Hershey, Coca Cola, Baseball, Coney Island, Joseph Pulitzer, William Randolph Hearst mark Twain, History of Dept. stores, Fashion
Get topic approved and each person writes 1-2 pages of notes for research from approved sites due at end of class.
